WASHINGTON – AZC Tiffainy Casey was selected as the Navy Wounded Warrior of the Month by Navy Region Southwest for December 2020.
Nominated by Non-Medical Care Manager Andrew Gasper, Casey has been enrolled in the program for over two years. Casey was diagnosed with a rare desmoid tumor, a diagnosis that only affects one to two million people each year in the US. “There are very few studies at this time that show effective treatments for this rare diagnosis,” said Casey.
But through it all, she stays focused on her kids and her blessings. “I feel blessed and hopeful that I was accepted into the Navy Wounded Warrior program. They changed my life. Now, I have my loving sister here to assist me with my day-to-day functions.”
Casey shared, “I am forever grateful for the Navy Wounded Warrior team. They were able to find a resource to assist my sister in traveling to California to support me with my children during an emergent situation. I can now rest a little easier and focus on healing.”
Navy Wounded Warrior is the Navy’s sole organization for coordinating the non-medical care of seriously wounded, ill and injured Sailors and Coast Guardsmen and providing resources and support to their families. Through proactive leadership, the program provides individually-tailored assistance designed to optimize the success of the wounded warriors’ recovery, rehabilitation and reintegration activities.
